It’s official.

Colleen Hoover’s It Starts with Us has sold over 52,000 copies in the seven days ending 22 October 2022, making it the highest-selling print book in the Australian Book Market since September 2018, according to Nielsen BookData. Previous release week record-breakers have included the Harry Potter series, and Scott Pape’s Barefoot Investor for Families (Nielsen BookData).

Dan Ruffino, Managing Director of Simon & Schuster Australia, broke the news to his colleagues, saying: ‘What an extraordinary set of numbers. Take a bow, team. It’s an incredible result.’

Colleen has become a global phenomenon in the book world – as a recent op-ed in the New York Times noted: To say she’s currently the best-selling novelist in the United States, to even compare her to other successful authors who have landed several books on the bestseller lists, fails to capture the size and loyalty of her audience.

The success of It Starts with Us is the result not only of one author’s enormous talent, but of international effort behind the scenes. Our directors, publishers, editors, sales teams, designers, marketers, and publicists have worked tirelessly to make it known that a truly huge book was about to enter the world. On the Australian front, we’ve engaged with Colleen’s loyal fans on Instagram and TikTok, sent out advance copies and extra goodies to ensure the best possible reading experience, hosted giveaways, and even placed larger-than-life copies of the book at select Westfields for our #CoHoGiantBook pop-up in the weeks leading up to publication.

The record-breaking It Starts with Us joins five other Colleen Hoover books in Nielsen BookScan Australia’s Top 20 bestselling print titles of 2022, alongside It Ends with Us, Ugly Love, November 9, and Maybe Someday.

We’re overjoyed to witness Colleen’s success, and proud to publish the writing of an author who holds such a special place in the hearts of her readers.
