About The Book

Prepare for travel to Basgiath in this (unofficial) culinary adventure, with recipes that capture the magic of The Empyrean.

Featuring 60 creative recipes and imaginative lore, this vibrant culinary adventure invites you to experience the magic, camaraderie, and chaos of Fourth Wing right from your own kitchen:

• Begin your journey with A Rider’s Breakfast, featuring treats like Asher’s Spiced Overnight Oats, Brennan’s Honeyed Biscuits with Strawberry Jam, and (Ripe) Fonilee Berry Muffins perfect for fueling up before a high-stakes training session.

• For late nights spent studying or plotting rebellion, whip up Study Snacks Fit for a Scribe: Sorrengail’s Secrets Stuffed Dates or Cheesy Buoy Ball Bites are sure to keep the pages (and conversation) turning.

• Savor Midday Fuel, such as the Basgiath Mess Hall Turkey Melt and Riorson House Chopped Salad or prepare a celebratory Feast After Flight with showstoppers like Tairn’s Feast Shepherd’s Pie and “We Do Not Eat Our Allies” Vegetarian Chili.

• To sweeten your day, there’s Xaden’s Chocolate Cake, Dragonfire Peaches with Honey, and Andarna’s Butterscotch Chocolate Eclipse Cookies.

• Recover from a wild ride with Healing Tinctures and Spirited Concoctions, from Basgiath Lavender Lemonade to the Cliffhanger Spiced Espresso Martini.

Get ready for an immersive experience, blending character-driven cooking tips (look for Jesinia’s margin notes!), in-world feeling “textbook” excerpts, and menus designed for book clubs or themed feasts. Whether you’re a kitchen cadet or a culinary wingleader, you’ll discover both practical, comforting recipes and a perfect dish for bringing your squad together, celebrating victories, or simply surviving another day with a dragon at your back.

A Note from the Author

Dear Fellow Wannabe Riders,

Welcome to A Guide to the Kitchen Quadrant, a culinary tribute to the world of The Empyrean; a series that swept me off my feet faster than a wyvern attack and hasn’t let me down since. This collection of recipes is inspired by the foods, characters, and moments that have made Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm such a deliciously wild ride.

Some of these recipes are directly inspired by dishes mentioned in the books (yes, Xaden’s Chocolate Cake is in here). Others are born from characters, places, or just the general chaos of being a cadet at Basgiath War College. They’re meant to be practical and comforting, but never boring. Things our favorite riders would be excited to reach for again and again.

This cookbook is for everyone, whether you’re a kitchen cadet or a culinary wingleader. I’ve designed these recipes to be approachable, customizable, and, most importantly, fun. I hope you’ll use this book not only for everyday meals, but also for book clubs, themed parties, or a watch party (IYKYK).

A quick warning: this book contains spoilers for The Empyrean books 1–3. If you haven’t finished Onyx Storm, proceed with caution, or just embrace the chaos, like a true rider.

From my kitchen to yours: May your spices be strong, your knives be sharp, and your squad always have your back.

Until the last venin falls,

Chelsea Cole
