About The Book

Although renowned for her work as a poet and dramatist, Dorothy Hewett, one of Australia’s greatest female writers, also produced an extraordinary body of non-fiction prose that spanned fifty years, including: literary and political essays and reviews, autobiographical meditations and early left-wing journalism. This collection demonstrates Hewett’s impressive versatility as a writer, as well as her diverse range of interests, from politics and culture to literature. Selected Prose of Dorothy Hewett is an indispensable tool for students and teachers of Australian politics, literature and theatre, and a wonderful introduction for the general reader into some of the most significant issues in Australian life since 1940.
