About The Book
I’m Prancing As Fast As I Can is a coming of Gay story that takes us from a scared, self-hating kid who spends most of his time under his desk staring at the hunky man on the Doan’s Pills box, to becoming a writer on Will & Grace, helping to make it a little easier for other scared, self-hating kids who might also be hiding and staring at their secret desire. It’s a journey through Olympic mustaches and when Che´r’s name had an accent and losing your virginity to a trucker and chasing Gay bashers in six-inch heels dressed as a drag bunny and a terrible virus and memorials and memorials and memorials and ACTing UP and using the word “lover” and having a fan who’s also a serial killer and Gay penguins and spreading your boyfriends’ ashes with your new boyfriend and Prop 8 and getting to write lines for divas on Ugly Betty and Gay marriage and more stuff like that and in the end ketamine therapy to help it all make sense.

Raves and Reviews
“I knew Jon Kinnally could make me laugh from years of working with him on Will & Grace, but I didn’t know he could make me cry too. Dammit, Jon! What a beautiful, open hearted, hilarious book. If I were the kind of person who read a book a second time I would consider doing it with this one.”
– Gary Janetti, New York Times bestselling author of Do You Mind If I Cancel?
“I laughed my ass off, and cried my heart out. Can this please be required reading for homophobes? It’s a grand salute to the artistry and whimsical talent of the gay world. Without them, we would be so boring. Thank you, Jon, and all the others, including my brother and sister.”
– Penelope Spheeris, director of The Decline of Western Civilization and Wayne’s World
“These stories are rich, and the one-liners are unforgettable!”
– Gabrielle Hamilton, New York Times bestselling author of Blood, Bones, & Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef
“Like the greatest storytellers, Kinnally was able to make me laugh out loud on one page before ripping my heart out on the next. Hilarious, true, poignant, necessary! There isn’t a person on earth (and maybe three or four other inhabited planets) that shouldn’t read this book ASAP!”
– Blair Fell, author of the award-winning The Sign For Home and Disco Witches of Fire Island
“Jon’s gut-funny and heart-felt account of pushing himself to be straight in adolescence then finding his gay soulmate in New York City’s vibrant, ‘80s art scene amidst the looming AIDS crisis is both poignant and triumphant. You’d have to be a myopic, fully clenched, elder Republic**t to deny yourself this read.”
– Laura Kightlinger, Stand-up comedian, writer
“I’ve been friends with Jon forever so I can say this: Reading his book is like talking to that weird aunt you get stuck with at a family reunion only to discover she’s the most interesting person there. Both hilarious and heartfelt—I loved it. Highly recommended!”
– Miss Coco
