Shaun David Hutchinson is the author of numerous books for young adults, including The Past and Other Things That Should Stay Buried, The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza, At the Edge of the Universe, and We Are the Ants. He also edited the anthologies Violent Ends and Feral Youth and wrote the memoir Brave Face, which chronicles his struggles with depression and coming out during his teenage years. Q. If you could be any person or thing, who or what would it be?

A. I really like being me.

Q. What is your greatest achievement?

A. So far it's writing The Deathday Letter.

Q. If you could meet any historical character, who would it be and what would you say to him or her?

A. If I could meet any historical character it would be Jack Kerouac so that I could tell him to put down the bottle.
